ENSIGN
The lowest officer aboard a Navy vessel. An ensign is a young officer who has just finished their academy studies and is taking experience on an active warship.

A naval Sub-Lieutenant is the second-lowest commissioned rank in the Imperial Navy.

LIEUTENANT
A naval Lieutenant is not of sufficient rank to command a capital ship but may supervise a section of a ship's operations.

The naval rank of Lieutenant Commander is equivalent to the army rank of Major. Generally, Lieutenant Commanders will command minor sections of a Starship.

At the rank of Lieutenant Commander, a Cult member may command a TIE Fighter squadron

COMMANDER
A commander may command major sections of a capital starship's operation, without being sufficiently senior to command the entire vessel. A commander may be given command of a warship of modest size, or a fixed facility like a naval depot or space station. The immediate subordinates and closest aides of a ship's captain will be of Commander rank.

At this rank, if the officer has recruited two or more Cult members, they can qualify for command of a Nebulon B frigate. Regardless of recruitments, a commander may command a TIE Interceptor squadron

CAPTAIN
As the title suggests, a ship's captain has command of an entire warship, though some officers of equal rank serve as aides to admirals or dignitaries. In general though, a staff position holds less prestige than command of a vessel, no matter how small or antiquated the ship may be.

Upon reaching the rank of Captain, a Cult member has several choices. They may choose command of a Nebulon B frigate or a Victory-class Star Destroyer, or, if they have recruited at least one other Cult member, may apply for command of an Immobiliser-class Interdictor. If the officer has recruited two or more Cult members, they may apply for command of an Imperial-class Star Destroyer.

LINE CAPTAIN
This rank is marginally senior to that of ship's captain. A Line Captain commands a naval line. A line is the smallest Navy element consisting of more than one ship. The number of ships in a line is roughly dependent on the size and firepower of the ships. A line of light cruisers will generally have more ships than a line of heavy cruisers.

At the rank of Line Captain, regardless of what type of ship they command, they  can now request to form a line of ships. Composition of any line group is subject to the Grand Admiral's discretion.

COMMODORE
A commodore is in equal in status to an army brigadier. A Commodore commands a squadron, which consists of several lines. Without direct orders from a Moff or higher authority, a squadron is usually the largest naval force to be stationed in a single system.

Upon reaching this rank, an officer may request to form a squadron - again, composition of the squadron is dependent on numerous factors, which are determined at the Grand Admiral's discretion

REAR-ADMIRAL
A Rear-Admiral is equivalent in rank to a Major General in the Imperial Army. This rank is not assigned a particular level of naval force in the Order of Battle. Under normal circumstances an officer in this intermediate rank will effectively act as a Commodore, but with seniority over actual Commodores.

VICE-ADMIRAL
Another intermediate rank, like that of Rear-Admiral.

ADMIRAL
An Admiral commands a systems force and may also be referred to as a systems admiral. A systems force is responsible for maintaining control and security over a region which contains dozens of inhabited star systems.

Upon reaching the rank of Admiral, an officer can request a system command.

A Fleet Admiral commands a fleet and usually answers to no authority other than the appropriate Moff, Grand Moff or Grand Admiral. A fleet may see combat anywhere within a sector. The fleets of a particular Sector Group therefore have overlapping domains. This is the lowest level of command at which transfers between sectors can be made.

HIGH ADMIRAL
A High Admiral is the being who commands a Sector Group, the sum total of all naval forces available within a particular sector of the galaxy. In most sectors the Moff holds this title. Occasionally the High Admiral may be a separate individual, for a variety of possible miscellaneous reasons. Presumably the multiple Sector Groups under the command of a Grand Moff may each have a High Admiral.

At the rank of High Admiral, an officer may request command of a Vengeance-class Star Destroyer.

MOFF
A Moff commands both the Army and Naval forces assigned to a Sector of space, in addition to acting as the political ruler of the sector. Moffs are appointed by the Emperor's Imperial Advisors. They report to Military High Command, and to the Imperial Advisors. Connection to the Imperial Advisors is known to seriously entangle some Moffs as pawns to personal feuds within the Emperor's Court.

Upon reaching the rank of Moff, an officer may request a sector to be assigned.

GRAND MOFF
A Grand Moff commands all of the military resources of an Oversector, which is a territory comprising several adjacent Sectors which are troubled by serious cross-border criminal and/or rebel activity. A Grand Moff is appointed to deal with those problems which are too big or too far-spread for local Moffs to handle. Accordingly, a Grand Moff usually commands the equivalent of several Sector Armies and naval Sector Groups.

Under Emperor Palpatine, a Grand Moff answered directly to the Emperor and not to any other authority such as the intermediate Imperial Advisors or ministers. The Emperor made this arrangement in order to help counterbalance the influence of his Advisors, secure ultimate military and political power for himself and to enable Grand Moffs to operate without hassles from above. Under the command structure of the Cult of Piett, Grand Moffs are answerable to the Grand Admiral, though still enjoy basically the same freedom of operation.

Once the rank of Grand Moff is attained, an officer may request to be assigned an Oversector.

The Order of the Fluffy Pink Bunny Slippers was introduced by Piett to reward those most loyal to him and establish an inner circle of top military minds. Members of the Order enjoy slightly more freedom of operation than other Grand Moffs, and significantly more prestige. The Order itself was named in honour of the late Grand Moff Tarkin who, due to a supply problem with his unusually large-size boots, was forced to spend most of his time wearing slippers around the Death Star.

This has its basis in fact. Actor Peter Cushing who played Tarkin had very big feet, and found the boots provided for his costume too tight, and so only shot with them on for one day. For the rest of his appearances, he was shot from the waist up, so the audience wouldn't see the slippers he was wearing.

Entry into this elite group is restricted to those personnel that the Grand Admiral feels have performed above and beyond the call of duty. Previous accomplishments performed by members of The Order include providing webspace for the site, providing a Piett action figure, and gaining Ken Colley's patronship for the Cult.

Upon induction into the Order of The Fluffy Pink Bunny Slippers, an officer is cleared to wear said fluffy pink bunny slippers while on duty.

SUPREME MOFF
The position of Supreme Moff is a new one to the Imperial structure. The rank is approximately equal to the position that Emperor Palpatine's inner cabal of Imperial Advisors (such as Sate Pestage) held under his rule. By definition, a Supreme Moff provides such skills as to be indispensable to the Empire

The rank of Supreme Moff is held by the provider of the Piett.Org domain name, webspace, mailing lists and other technical aspects of the site. He's a really cool guy, honest!

Under Palpatine, there were thirteen Grand Admirals. Each was directly appointed by the Emperor and directly responsible to him. Apart from Lord Darth Vader, there was no higher authority within the Imperial Navy. Grand Admirals do not have any political territory; their sphere of duty is the Empire as a whole. It is reasonable to assume that most Grand Admirals are associated with High Command on Coruscant, or else patrol the whole galaxy as Lord Vader did. Under Piett, the Grand Admiral holds the second highest position in the empire, acting as the Emperor's right hand being. As such, under Piett's rule, there can only ever be one Grand Admiral at a time.

The rank of Grand Admiral is held by Scott Hayden, founder of the Cult of Piett and creator of Piett.Org - the Admiral Piett Homepage

EMPEROR
Imperial Symbol
The highest position in the Empire, and therefore the most powerful being in the galaxy. A role once held by the former Senator Palpatine, Piett has assumed the command in his place. The Emperor's power is unlimited, period.
The rank of Emperor is held by Kenneth Colley, the man who played Piett in the Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, following his agreement to fulfil the role of honorary president/ patron/ whatever.
