They covered the lowlifes at a bar. They wrote a book on the sub-culture of a gangster's palace. They even told the tales of five pieces of scum who call themselves bounty hunters. And when the time came to tell our tales, they had other ideas.
Now, the time has come to strike back...
Remember these?
3 Star Wars anthology titles, edited by Kevin J. Anderson, dealing with characters from Mos Eisley, Jabba's Palace and the ESB Bounty Hunters respectively. I read them, and I enjoyed them. Some of the stories were good, some were great, others I found a little annoying. But they were all great reads, and a good format. So I figured that they'd probably milk the format a couple more times - right off the top of my head, I could think of two more books they could do, one based on the various Rebels we've seen and one based on...
Well, in due course, I became aware of the Tales Of The Empire book. It too was an anthology, and though advance information about the book seemed a little unclear, I assumed that it would follow the format of the previous "Tales" books. I was greatly looking forward to reading short stories about all my favourite Imperial officers.
Then it came out.
It turned out to be a collection of short stories from the Star Wars Adventure Journal, a magazine published for Star Wars RPG which had some little stories in it. Now, while there was nothing wrong with the stories themselves - it's a good book, and if you haven't read it, I suggest you do, especially if you're a Grand Admiral Thrawn fan - I felt cheated. Betrayed even. Where was my book about Imperials? They had hijacked a perfectly Imperial name for a book that had little to do with the Empire itself.
I was miffed. I had been looking forward to reading stories of the hard working
Imperials. It was about this time I had an idea. A mad, stupid, insane idea that was so
crazy...
...that it just might work.
The idea was this: TALES OF THE IMPERIALS - a totally fan written anthology, based around the officers and men of the Imperial forces. This is without doubt a highly ambitious project, but one that I think can not only be done, but can be done well, and hopefully turn a few heads doing so.
In these pages, you'll be able to follow the progress of this mammoth undertaking, and, hopefully, take part in it. To quote an Imperial of some prominence - "Join me, and together, we can rule the galaxy"!
As this project is only just beginning, there's lots of work to be done. Right now, I'm looking for writers and submissions for stories. What this means is that if you'd like to write a short story about one of the characters listed below, then e-mail me with your name, the character you're interested in, and a brief summary of your basic idea for their story.
If you know other people who might be interested in helping with this project by writing, send them my way. And remember, we're not looking for just good Star Wars fanfic writers - we're looking for just plain good writers who can tell a good story, since that's the most important thing.
