SURVIVAL OF GRAND ADMIRAL PIETT

After the Empeor was killed by Luke Skywalker, Admiral Ackbar of the Rebellion ordered the Rebel fleet to center all firepower on the SSD Executor. With the death of the Emperor the Imperial Fleet was left in caos. The Rebels knocked out the Executor's bridge shield leaving the bridge unprotected. When an incoming Rebel ship collided with the SSD Admiral Piett and his first officer jumped into the command trench. The layout of a SSD's bridge has two escape pods on both the left and right command trenches. It is the job of the wepons officer to safely eject the pod if the bridge is damaged or boarded. Admiral Piett can be seen jumping into the command trech in ROTJ and later a small pod can be seen blasting away from the command bridge.

Piett's escape pod found it's way to the SD Constome where it was recovered. Piett took charge of the Imperial Fleet and ordered it back to Courscant. For Admiral Piett's braverly he was promoted to Grand Admiral by the Imperial Council.
